About the Artist, Linda Joan Chiasson....
Linda is an accomplished bear artist, having First Place and Honourable Mention awards to her credit. She is also a Juried member of the New Brunswick Crafts Council. Linda's bears are truly a cut above the rest, and her craftsmanship speaks for itself.
Linda works exclusively with genuine fur, a challenging medium, at best, from which to work. She recycles fur coats, and crafts bears from her own designs. The most important feature of her bears, the faces and muzzles, are carefully handstitched and meticulously scissor sculpted. Linda goes the extra mile in her work to ensure that each and every one of her creations is exemplary.
An avid seamstress all her life, Linda discovered the joy and addictive nature of making bears in 1999. Hooked from the get-go, she continued to make bears for family and friends, receiving many requests, and using fur donated from friends and family or purchased second hand. Her passion for bear making increased with every new bear, as did the demand. Then hobby turned into business. "Linda Joan" bears are not mass produced. She turns out just a moderate number of bears, making them highly valued and very collectible.
Please visit the "Gallery" page where you will see examples of Linda's work. You can also email email Linda if you are interested in having her create a teddy bear from your fur coat or from a fur in her own collection!
New Brunswick Crafts Council
The New Brunswick Crafts Council is the oldest provincial crafts council in Canada . The Council promotes excellence in crafts and maintains high standards of craftsmanship. Its membership includes both juried and non-juried craftspeople.
Linda joined the New Brunswick Crafts Council in 2003 as a juried member with outstanding scores.
Creativity, technical expertise and overall excellence are what distinguish juried members. Juried members must have completed a process whereby their work is evaluated by a panel of jurors and meets both high technical and aesthetic standards.
The jurors of the Jurying & Standards Committee, New Brunswick Crafts Council commented about Linda’s work:
